Rabbi Jacob Rothschild -Jacob Rothschild was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1911 and attended a reform congregation there in his early years. He was inspired by his own childhood rabbi, Samuel Goldenson, who worked to end exploitation of laborers in the Pittsburgh industrial sector, particularly in the Steel Industry. Inspired by Goldenson's example, Rothschild attended Hebrew Union College in 1927 to pursue a rabbinical career. Upon graduation, Rothschild took the pulpit at a few congregations before joining the army as a chaplain in 1942. He was exposed to combat on the pacific front but was forced home because of a case of malaria. He finished his military service in 1946 and was offered the position at the Hebrew Benevolent Temple in Atlanta in the same year. |
